Plays
A play is a recommended campaign for one group of accounts that share a behavior — for example, accounts raising the same pricing concern, or accounts that stopped using a feature. Each play explains the pattern FunnelStory found, how strong the evidence is, what it can't see, and includes a drafted email sequence you can run in your own email tool. Review plays when you want a short, evidence-ranked list of programs worth running across your book, rather than one-account-at-a-time follow-ups.
FunnelStory enables plays per workspace. When they're on, the Plays tab appears in Focus Areas for users with the Admin or Super Admin role.
How it works
FunnelStory writes at most one play per group of accounts. A group becomes a play only when it clears the bar set in Play Settings: it must have enough accounts, strong enough evidence, and fit under the cap on plays per period. An AI Agent writes the play's card and email sequence using only the analysis behind the group, and says plainly what's uncertain.
FunnelStory doesn't send a play's emails. The sequence is copy for you to paste into the tool your team uses to send customer email.
The Plays tab
Open Focus Areas and select the Plays tab. The header shows how many plays were recommended in the current period — for example, "3 plays recommended this period".
The tab lists plays across the whole workspace, ranked by opportunity. It doesn't change with the focus mode you've selected.
The Open only toggle is on by default and shows only plays awaiting action. Turn it off to include plays that were marked done or discarded. If there are more plays than fit on the page, click Load more.
Reading a play card
Each card shows its rank, a one-sentence title naming the problem and who has it, and a status badge: Awaiting Action, Done, or Canceled. The first card opens expanded; click any card's header to expand or collapse it.
| Section | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Signal | Where the group came from (Conversation signal, Product signal, or Mixed signal), a short theme such as Pricing, and the evidence rating: Strong evidence, Moderate evidence, or Weak evidence. |
| Why | The pattern (what these accounts did, and how many), How this was measured (how they compare to accounts that didn't, in plain numbers), What we are not sure about (what the data can't see), and supporting customer quotes with their source when available. |
| Next Steps | Numbered non-email steps in the play, when it has any. |
| Overlap warning | "N accounts also in another open play" when the group shares accounts with another open play. |
The card's footer shows the account count (click it to open the play's audience), the revenue at risk or the expansion opportunity, the time horizon, the length of the email sequence (for example "3-email sequence"), and when the play was created, by FunnelStory Agent.
Working with the email sequence
Click Email Draft to open the sequence. The left side lists each email in order with the day it goes out (Day 0, Day 3, and so on) and the play's Exit rule — when an account should leave the sequence. The right side shows the selected email's Subject and Message. Emails address the recipient with a {{FirstName}} placeholder.
You can edit the subject and message before copying. Edits aren't saved: closing the dialog and reopening it restores the original copy.
- Copy this email copies the selected email's subject and message.
- Copy all N copies the whole sequence, with each email labeled by its position and day.
Use the expand control in the dialog header for a full-width view.
Closing out a play
An open play has two actions:
- Mark as Done — records that you ran the play. Its status changes to Done.
- Discard — asks "Discard this play?"; click Discard to confirm or Keep play to go back. A discarded play moves to Canceled, drops out of the open list, and is still visible when Open only is off.
Neither can be undone from the Plays tab — plays that are no longer open show no action buttons. A group never gets a second play, so a discarded group isn't recommended again.
Play settings
Play Settings set the bar a group must clear to become a play. Go to Configuration → Features → Plays.
| Setting | What it controls | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum cohort size | The fewest accounts a group needs. Below this, a group is too small to justify a program. | 10 accounts |
| Minimum evidence rating | Weak, Moderate, or Strong. Groups rated below this never become a play. | Strong |
| Maximum plays per period | The ceiling on how many plays can be recommended in each cadence window. | 1 |
| Cadence | Daily, Weekly, or Every two weeks — the window Maximum plays per period counts over. | Daily |
Both numbers must be whole numbers of at least 1. Click Save Configuration to apply your changes. Changes apply to plays recommended afterwards; existing plays aren't rewritten.
The page also lists what's Deliberately not here: there's no minimum number of plays per period, because filling a quota in a thin week would mean promoting groups that didn't clear the bar, and there's no choice of action type, because email is the only channel.
